    Thur-29th May: River paddle

    Greg, Martin

Are you still keen for a river paddle tomorrow night.?

    LW 15:10
    HW 21:18

Looks like we'll be heading downstream for a change

I think we need to tell Yatesy that we're paddling and what we need, so if you're on..!! I'll start an equipment thread

More the merrier if anyone else fancies joining us..?

    Justin

Arghh! We've got 3 or 4 paddling tomorrow on the river, so with the club only having five sea kayaks, we are going to have to use basin kit. The basin says that they always have priority for their kit, even on Thursdays, so five/six might well be the operating capacity.

Steve, where are those damned boats that you're supposed to be buying?

    Re: Thur-29th May: River paddle

    Robby,

I'm sure we'll be fine for tomorrow.  I think Martin will/can use his own boat? so that'll only leave 5 or 6 of us needing a 'river' worthy boat

    Geoff, Yatesy,

Always been good at spending other peoples money, so I'm happy to help.  I'm sure quite a lot has been done already on the fixing/selling/buying so I'll pitch in wherever's needed now?

    Re: Thur-29th May: River paddle

    Hi

The intention was to paddle on a thursday being a quieter day kayak wise.  There were 9  available on Tuesday for the beginners group.   Looks as if we are in trouble though, what's the plan long term given there is an aparent under spend on sea kayak's, and Thursday (less demand) doesnot seem to be a way around this problem.

     Cheers

    Greg

    Robby,

The comitee has already agreed to this with Nick so I suggest you mention it to him.

    Thanks,

    Re: Thur-29th May: River paddle

    Hi

Sounds like everything is in place we just need to take it the next step.

How about we tee up some time with Nick to run through the sea kayak inventory listing all boats that need to be sold, agree ball park figures for sale etc.  We can then put these on ebay.  I don't think Nick is able to make it next Tuesday so we may do this Tuesday week or so.

At the same time we can get an appreciation of the desired sea kayaks & run with that purchase wise given budget allowance.

Happy to help, just need to know what I'm helping with.

    Cheers

    Greg

    Re: Thur-29th May: River paddle

Glad to see some progress with this! The club doesn't function without people taking the intitiative. :-)

As for purchasing new boats, speak to Steve Badleigh (Sea4me) as he had began discussions with a few contacts with a view to getting some discount.

    Re: Thur-29th May: River paddle

Just to confirm I'll be coming tonight. I will turn up at 7.15 pm with boat kitted up and go direct to beach. The changing rooms are not available for our use btw till 7 pm on Thursdays. How often do the Basin use their sea kayaks on a Thursday evening? If the answer is rarely maybe we can come to an arrangement if we want to use them regularly on a Thursday.

Boat buying could be moved to a different thread. Officially this is Steve's (Sea4Me) responsibility. My own opinion is that we set up an official Sea Kayaking sub-committee, that has infrequent meetings, contacts via the web site, so that we have a pool of volunteers who can help Steve, Nick and Ailien if they need it.

Well I tried to split up the posts. Each post and the immediate reply ended up in a different thread. There does not seem to be a way to move a post into an existing thread - each move makes a new thread. Sorry.

    Re: Thur-29th May: River paddle

Thread splitting seems work according to  which post people have clicked 'reply' to, so can have some unpredictable results. That's my theory, anyway, if everyone clicks reply to the first post, it might just work better. We could do a test.

Damn, I've put this in the wrong forum. :)

Sub-comitees are great, but they take a long time to arrange something, I think if people want to go ahead and try to organise selling the unwanted boats then they should go ahead.

.. After contacting Steve and Nick at least.

I wasn't thinking of a sub-committee in the traditional sense (meetings voting etc), though one 'planning and intro meeting' a year and one 'volunteers meeting' a year might be useful. I'm thinking (aloud) of a loose conglomeration of people volunteering to help out, perhaps with it's own forum heading (and for people to switch email notification on for postings to this forum).

I vote that if the Sea Kayak budget is not spent by June it should be transfered to WW?  Who else agrrees? ;-)
