I found this on a Swedish forum:
Hi,
This is really important. We need your help now. Serious news from Nottingham. Holmpierrepont needs your help. . Last week, Matt Chadder found out that it's going to be closing in December for four months to completely change the course's features.
It looks like it's going to be designed exclusively from input from World Class Slalom. That's serious, because it will mean a shallow channel with no deep pools.
The last plans we saw would mean a destroyed top wave, no looping pool, no muncher, no office, no jaws, no washing machine, no magic roundabout, and no features to replace them. In short, it wouldn't even be worth holding a freestyle there.
Read about it here: http://hppconcern.wordpress.com/
And see the plans here: http://hppconcern.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/proposed-plans-for-holme-pierrepont-whitewater-course/
As a guide, Teesside is 1m deep. They would concrete in all the pools until Nottingham is 1.2m deep.
We are collecting pledges of support. We need about 280 for the BCU to have no choice but to sit up and listen. You can pledge your support online at http://www.downtimekayaks.com/contacthpp.php. Just fill in the form and – most importantly – include your BCU/ECA/WCA/SCA/CANI number.
This is urgent. We've got about a week to act. We need to show enough support by a week today. Please also encourage anyone else who might be affected to pledge their support too.
We just need your name, BCU number, and email address
Please just take a minute, go to http://www.downtimekayaks.com/contacthpp.php and pledge your support so that any changes to the course , if any , are made only after consulting the membership . This is really so very important to all of us .
Let everyone you know who paddles at HPP or may wish to do so in the future know of these plans and get them to pledge their support too
Thanks
Ross
