SPAIN April 2009 ~ how to become a whitewater god!

Over the last few year many of us have been and enjoyed the whitewater in Catalunya based in sort. I will be running this trip again next year so I thought I'd give you a very early diary date!

Where: Norguera Pallaresa, Catalan Pyrenees, Spain.

    When : 25th April - 2rd May.

Coaches : Myself and good freind and fellow experienced L3 Glen.

Water : dam release river with grades 2-4.

Accommodation : Camping at a great site on the banks of the river.

    Places:  6

Cost  : in addition to you personal costs there will be a coaches expenses charge of £125 per person. Payment of this to Lars confirms your place.

How good do I have to be ? erm very ! Not really this would suit white water improvers.

What else? Come and have chat to me if you want to know more. Or talk to your WW rep Emma she has made styling the Gorge Guardian rapid somewhat of a specialty!

    Happy paddling Mark

    Hi Mark,

Not sure if I'm up to a good enough level for this (although I may be by then), but I would definately be interested in going on this if you think I am.

Do you need to own your own boat? Or can we use club ones for this?

    Cheers

    Matt

I would be up for this too just need to get lots of white water practise in before then so im at a reasonable standard. Pics from last year look excellent.

Easy answer to all questions. Make sure you are good enough.

Seriously if you keep practicing this is definately a possibility

I have been to Sort for a multi-activity holiday and it is an amazing location. I would love to go back especially to kayak.

The problem is that I am currently doing my 2 star and haven't even been on white water yet. I'm planning to do white water trips over the winter so if I can get enough practice in I would like to join this group.

    Hey,

We now have four people signed up for this trip.

    Myles, Gary, Hannah and Matt

There are two further spots still open after speaking to mark tonight so if you want to get involved and become a white water god speak to Mark about coming along or pay Lars the deposit.

Hmmm any want to pursuade Dan to work away from home so that I can paddle crazy rivers in warm weather without feeling guilty for leaving him?
Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe

Re: SPAIN April 2009 ~ how to become a whitewater god!

    Absolutely recommended!

I've been there once for 10 days training wildwater racing and regard this as amoungst the best places for whitewater canoeing anywhere I have been so far (which is saying something): 80+ km of WW of varying levels. It does depend on water release and some of the side rivers must need local rain. Be aware that an international Wildwater racing competition will be run there over and just before Easter 2009 (preparatory to the World Championships in 2010) That will use only 6 km of river, but those are (argably) the best 6 kms.

    A few thoughts:

    •  It could well still be quite cold in April (it was for us in 2007) which impacts upon not only the clothing and accommodation, but also the water levels.
    • We stayed in on-site vans at the camping ground so as not to have to lug tents and rough it in the cold whilst training full-time. Once there we discovered some self-contained units in the township that were slightly more expensive but much better value. I don't have that information, but know where to find it if interested.
    • When I go again - probably not next year, unfortunately - I'd be looking at doing a river or three on the way also. Depends on time and the group's travel tollerence I suppose.

Keen to know which rapid is meant by the Gorge Guardian rapid - in fact which of the several gorges is meant.

     Cheers

    Tordi!

Re: SPAIN April 2009 ~ how to become a whitewater god!

I'm keen on this trip if there is room for me. Pretty sure I'd meet the standard, but happy to discuss with organiser. I'll speak to Lars about paying deposit. Can anyone tell me how much it is, & how people travel to Spain & back?

     cheers all

Re: SPAIN April 2009 ~ how to become a whitewater god!

    Hi Gary

It's £125 for my expenses, plus whatever it costs you to get there, camping, food etc.  Normally go by car, we can sort that out when we know who's coming.

Lets catch up in the pub one Tuesday, I can tell you more

    Cheers

    Mark
