I have room for four passengers in my van. I could also tow the trailer. 27th or 28th is good for me.

    Hi

27th & 28th are good for me. I had put my name down for Vauxhall/Battersea but having done this previously I think it's best to broaden my horizons.  Jon am I able to grab a lift with you please? Passenger + kayak?

    Cheers

    Greg

    Re: Thames Triangle Autumn 08

    Hi all,
Day is now set at Sat 27 Sept - clashes with Vauxhall trip but hey-ho!
Navigation meeting after paddling this Tuesday 16th in Basin's upstairs classroom.
We'll probably run out of time and have to continue in pub or following week.
The date gives us Sheerness HW at 1215 so we'll have to paddle anticlockwise on the ebb as opposed to clockwise on the flood.
I'll bring all needed for nav planning but suggest anyone else interested brings what they need to do it independantly...
Anyone else who can't come on the trip but is interested in the navigation planning, PLEASE COME TOO.

    See you Tuesday.

Also please see Swanage tide race thread for latest...

vauxhall vs thames triangle mashup dj action plan

I'm sure we can share out the equipement we need - there are two sets of splits (excluding the white water ones) and two decent pumps so we should be cool?

I'm imagining you'll be best off with the VHF radios (we can use a mobile on the thames) and the flares. Ditto for the emergency kit / shelter.

Just leave me a left handed touring paddle *grin*

    Re: Thames Triangle Autumn 08

    Nick,

Now we have a date (27th), please count me in !
I'll probably arrive there direct from Kent, ie without passing the basin (and collecting $200) so will need to synchronise with you.

    Cheers

Thames Triangle 27 Sept latest info

    Dear all,
Please check that the following list and info is correct:
    9 paddlers
Sean, Pete, Nick (in Sean's car + 3 boats)
    Tony, (self propelled from Kent)
Liz, her man & Rob Scott (in Liz's car = 2 boats)
Justin, Greg (in Justin's car + 2 boats)
    Jon E, (???

Liz and Jon; perhaps you might want to combine transport and go in Jon's van?

Except Tony and Liz we'll be collecting boats from the Basin at 9am Saturday.
We need to leave by 9.30 for a 12.15 launch from Barton's Point (just east of Sheerness).

I will book the club shelter and one flare pack.  I think we have enough towlines between us (Me, Tony, Jon?) but if you want to book one then do so.  Tony, Jon and I have radios.

Bring spare warm clothing, lunch, drink and emergency rations.
Maps in waterproof cases are a good idea...perhaps we can practice using hand held compass to fix out position and check it with Tony or Rob's GPS.

Any queries about the above are easier for me to answer if regular email as I'm restricted in my using the club site from work.

    See you Saturday morning.

Re: Thames Triangle 27 Sept latest info

Please can people bring any spare straps .. I don't have any. I only have the car.

I hope to get another set of J bars from Ailien (Steve Farleigh has them) so should be able to carry 3 boats. Nick will bring his own J bars.

    Thames Triangle 27 Sept

Many thanks to Nick for organising this ! A great day out, in near perfect conditions, and with lots of opportunity for navigation practice (charts, compasses and GPS everywhere). I was almost disappointed when the fog liftedSmile

For any GPS nurds out there, here's where we went:

    1. Track shown on BA1185 25K in A3 portrait
    2. Track shown on BA1185 25K in A1 Landscape
    3. Track file in GPX format

I notice that we appear to have strayed into the danger zone around a wrecked wartime munitions ship. Must be more careful next time...
