Sea kayaking course 15/16 July at the Basin

    Sea kayaking course 15/16 July at the Basin

    Jan has kindly offered to run another sea kayaking course at the Basin and on the river over the weekend of 15/16 July.

    The course covers an introduction to sea kayaking equipment and techniques, trip planning and rescues. The first day is usually on the Basin and the second day takes the form of an extended river trip.

    The cost is £40 and you must have your 3 star.

    Alison has already expressed an interest but we need a minimum of 4 for the course to be viable. If you would like to take part please reply below.

    It will much nicer to do the course now than in October when the next course is due!

    I've got me level 2 training on the Sunday.  If there is any chance of another date I'd be up for not leaving it till October!

    Jan has now said that she would open this course up to people who are workimng towards their 3 star award (ie you are not quite at assessment standard yet but have been working on 3 star for a while).

    If you are interested let me know and I will pass names onto her. Times will follow shortly.

    Hi Alison,

    I would like to join the weekend course. I have freed up my weekend for it Smile [:)]

    I once read that alcohol is very bad for your health, so I gave it up.

    Reading that is.

    Course details and what to bring

    Cost is £40

    Times - Sat      10.00 - 4.00
                Sun      12.00 - 6.00 ish

    Programme

    Saturday
    Will be based on the Basin, the morning session will look at transferring general skills into the sea boats and should be dry.  The afternoon session will focus on rescues, rolling and all the lovely wet stuff....

    We will also look at journey planning, basic navigation and chartwork - this will probably be split between the two days

    Sunday
    Will be a trip on the river.  High water is at 5pm, so the late start would mean a trip up to Vauxhall, doing lots of skills on the way and a straight return journey starting off against the tide.

    What to bring
    Saturday
    Packed lunch, paddling kit that you are happy to get in the water with.

    Sunday
    packed lunch, drinks, paddling kit
    and
    all of the things that you would take for a day trip on the river:
    spare clothes
    emergency food / drink
    first aid
    repair kit
    phone
    etc, etc

    Please bring a compass if you have one - the hand held, mountain type ones are good.

    We now have 8 people confirmed.

    Saba and Paul... if you want to come you need to let me know as spaces are running out!!!
