    Hi Neil,

I won't bother with a coach for this one, and will start off in the little waves and see how I get on, and watch the experts for technique.

Which boat would you recommend to take, blue dagger for example? Steve recommended I took my sea kayak (Valley Pintail), but I have a picture of myself ending up stuck in the sand vertically, or worse injuring someone else  with it's pointy end!

Only use the sea kayak would have is to practice beach launching and entry in breakers, apart from that would be of no use and probably kill someone.  Not really the boat you take surfing..........

Dagger is fine, there will be enough variation of boats there to try some others.

Re: Starting the New Year off right - in the Cornish surf

There are pictures in Ocean Paddler that have people surfing in sea kayaks and also doing loops (i think thats what they are called when you get one of the boat almost vertical out of the water and twist around and then return to the horizontal - no doubt I will be corrected) so it is possible to use them for silly things.

You could create a sea kayak kebab - one sea kayak skewered through lots of surf and play boats.   Not sure if our insurance would pay out tho

Re: Starting the New Year off right - in the Cornish surf

I've seen people riding the Bitches (big tidal race) in Sea Kayaks and looping, it is possible but certainly not recommended.

What is the connotation around seakayak skewing surf and playboats?

    Neil,

The only answer to your question is you have to live in Sarah`s world!!

    Sorry Sarah still love you.

Re: Starting the New Year off right - in the Cornish surf

    Ok will attempt explanation

one sharp long and fast pointy sea kayak

    several short play boats

sharp pointy sea kayak can't stop- hits little boats/surfers nose on - you may recall this happening on the basin when someone stopped to do a loopy thing in their short boat without looking behind them and I could not stop large fairly rapid moving sea kayak.

think kebab - sea kayak being the kebab stick and short little boats the chicken or vegetables

is my world really that strange?

That person who got pierced in the shoulder was myself to clear that bit up.

That is where Sarah's war against the shorter boat paddlers began and by looking at the thread continues.
