    3rd UK Storm Gathering - Anglesey 2008

The 3rd UK Storm Gathering Sea Kayak Symposium will be held on Anglesey over the weekend beginning Saturday 25th and running through to 27th October 2008. The cost for attending the three days will be £125. This includes access to all workshops, evening lectures, social events and a symposium souvenir.

BCU Coach Education, Star Awards, trips and further coaching opportunities are planned to run from 28th - 31st October. Courses and trips will run when workable numbers are reached.

The Symposium will be based at Anglesey Outdoors and workshops/ journeys will launch from the surrounding bays and harbours

Particpants will need to arrange their own accommodation. An information sheet listing options, above and beyond that which Angelsey Outdoors has on offer, will be made available in due course.

The aim of this symposium is to bring together kayakers of all abilities with similar passions and provide a practical programme with an emphasis on preparing for challenging conditions, commitment and open crossings. There will be a number of well known names from the sea kayaking world exhibiting at this event.

On the water clinics are likley to be based around the following themes : navigation, boat handling, boat repair, leadership and incident management, paddling skills and journey planning and led by guest coaches from within the UK and further afield.

A symposium flyer is available for download here in PDF Format.

A booking form is available on request.

Please e-mail Mark should you wish to discuss matters relating to the symposium

Re: 3rd UK Storm Gathering - Update

Its good to see that there has been a healthy interest in this years event with quite few folk already signing up and getting their accommodation sorted at Anglesey Outdoors

As with all symposiums there will be an upper limit to how many participants can attend so that workshops on the water are manageable and the event itself doesn't become overwhelmed

Please e-mail me if you would like a booking form and that way I can keep track of enquiriesI'm happy to send it as an attachment or through the post (if you supply an address)

Other news - I'm currently exploring options for guest speakers, the Storm Gathering party and a suitable symposium souvenir

Please feel free to offer thoughts, opinions and ideas, they will all go towards creating a better event

And finally, it would be good to see the gallery grow and as such there is an added incentive but I'll let you find out what that is

All the best for now :0)

Re: 3rd UK Storm Gathering - Update

i would love to come and play, count me in.

don't have camera, so won't contribute to gallery - unless being the subject of "getting munched" photos counts as prizeworthy ;)

I'm strongly inclined to go to this if I can...after the May Anglesey Symposium I'm keen for more.

Re: 3rd UK Storm Gathering - Anglesey 2008

has anyone at the club been to this before? I have potential free accomadation for the weekend about 1 hour 15 mins drive away, but was wondering if this was the kinda thing that goes on into the evening, or starts so early you wouldn't want to be driving over at stupid o'clock.

    any thoughts?

Re: 3rd UK Storm Gathering - Anglesey 2008

Dan, none of tide races around Anglesey are long trips, they are caused by coastal features. And learning rough water paddling is tiring, they will have mind on safety. This is not an event focused on distance. So I would be surprised if the trips left the centre before 9, and were back after 5.
