Hi all,
Nick is having fun in [wikipedia:Wales] at the moment, but he asked me to post the following:
Dear all, here are the details.
High Water Dover (HWD) 1025 & 2236 BST. Tidal range approx 4.5m.
Flood (east-going) begins HWD -2:30 = 0755 & 2006
Ebb ( west-going) begins HWD +4:30 = 1455 (& 0306 Sunday morning).
Outline
Meet at Shakespear Beach, Dover (directions will be posted) at 1400 ready for 1500 launch.
Launch on the ebb. Paddle west towards Folkestone. Admire cliffs. Avoid rocks.
Pause at campsite (at The Warren) to view landings (see picture below; possible drop-out point).
Continue to Folkestone Harbour then about a mile beyond. Break for tea.
Return to campsite against the tide (2 NM)...or if tide too strong continue a mile or two, assuming vehicle pick-up can be arranged.
Paddle tide plan (calculated allowing a very modest speed of 2 knots - which also builds in time for play etc)
NM BST
0 1500 Launch from Dover, going west.
4.5 1715 Pause at the Warren.
6.5 1815 Break at picnic spot 1NM after Folkestone harbour.
-- 1900 Return eastwards to campsite. (Last 2NM calculated at 1.5kn to allow for going against the tide)
8.5 2020 Arrive at campsite.
Campsite: The Warren (bottom of cliff by the sea), Folkestone, Kent (not Little Switzerland, which is at the top of the cliff)
Tel: 01303 255093 - Wear Bay Road, Folkestone, Kent, CT19 6NQ
I tried to add a picture of the view, but that seems impossible, we will do that later if we find out how
I hope to have my car - could take 3 boats and will go down on Friday night to camp.
Who else is likely to do this?
Who is likely to travel down on Saturday?
Book your boats now!
Check the hatches.
Check the skegs (gently) are they wedged with gravel? Is the control wire kinked?
Tell us if skegs are not working and arrange to fix them!
