Re: May 17 Folkestone Dover Folkestone trip

    Dear all,

Assuming I have my car (will confirm next 2 days) can I suggest the following:
    D = driver.

    CAR 1 (traveling Friday night)
    D. Nick, Dan, Ailien + gear + 3 boats.

CAR 2 (traveling Fri or Sat)
    D. Pete, Sean + gear + 3 boats.
Could take extra person and gear.

    CAR 3 (travellng ???)
    D. Martin, Robby + gear + 2boats.
    Could take extra person.

I won't be at the club tonight but will be there next Tuesday 13 May.

Re: May 17 Folkestone Dover Folkestone trip

Hello there. Is it possible to paddle either Sat or Sunday without paddling on both days?

Hey robbie, unless I'm mistaken, the paddle is on saturday afternoon, and sunday is travelling back / kicking back.

The paddle is on the Saturday afternoon but we might have time to have a splash on Sunday?

Re: May 17 Folkestone Dover Folkestone trip

    Hi Pete,

Good to hear you are in for more paddling or splashing! The Tide would be right to paddle back on the day after.

What we could do is to leave the cars in Dover, paddle from Dover to Folkestone on Saturday afternoon as planned, but with all our gear (if you have not already arrived on the camping on Friday night). We could than paddle back to Dover on the Sunday.

It is not too far, only about 8 km, so depending on swell and weather, we could load off our camping gear, play around in the surf and/or do some rolling and rescues in the waves. We could do that either on Saturday afternoon in Folkestone, or Sunday when we get back to Dover.

I know Nick would probably have to go back home on Saturday evening, but I would be up for this if I can find a spot for me and my kayak in, respectively on somebody else's car.

Re: May 17 Folkestone Dover Folkestone trip

    Dear paddley people,

Sorry but I'm incapable of posting a map but I suggest you use a Google map and type in 'Shakespear Beach, Dover'.  You should then see the harbour and to the left hand side (west, outside the harbour) where the western harbour wall hits the land there is Shakespear Beach running west towards Shakespear Cliffs.  We'll launch from the beach near where it hits the harbour wall.
If you're driving along the A20 from Folkestone it turns in to Achilles Road and then at Limekiln roundabout you take the industrial, concrete ramp called 'the Viaduct' towards the beach/harbout.  (After the roundabout Achilles Road turns in to Limekiln Rd...and you've gone too far).
The Viaduct slopes and curves down and at the end you'll see a big, square, white building (old hotel?) turn right by it and there's a car park, separated from the beach by a concrete wall.

You can't drive on to the beach because there's a barrier but you can stop by it to unload boats then drive back round the corner into the car park.
    What more can I say?
See you at Shadwell on Tuesday 13th.

    Logistics

    Hulo people

I'm travelling up with Nick on the friday night and was planing to head back with him on the saturday night. However it looks unlikely that we can get back in time to get boats back to Shadwell. Would anyone be able to transport my boat back on the sunday?

    Logistics car/boat shuffle

    A couple of points:
    1.  Unless I've misunderstood, Ailien's suggestion is that vehicles could be left at Dover on Saturday and people could then paddle back to them  on Sunday.  I don't think the car park is secure in any way!  It is remote and quiet and not overlooked.
    2.  On Saturday we should meet at Shakespeare beach in plenty of time (say 13:30) for some cars to be driven back to the campsite - I need my car at campsite for a quick get away and we'll need a second car there to go and fetch the third from Dover.
An alternative might be for me to leave my boat at Shakespeare Beach with Ailien and Dan, drive to the campsite, leave my car there and meet Pete or Martin there at 13:00.
I have my car and assume Pete and Martin will have theirs, as planned.

Who is planning to travel on which day?

Nick, please accept my apoIogies - I have double-booked myself and have to pull-out of this paddle. Sorry for the late notice

    More changes/cars etc

    Dear all,

Sorry Robby can't make it...next time maybe? but David Turner is interested in coming down with us on the Friday night and would come home with me on Saturday evening - we could store any boats we bring back in his yard and I'd bring them to Shadwell on Tuesday.

We need to reshuffle bodies and boats in cars cos I can't fit four plus gear...
Is anyone else coming down on the Friday night?  Pete & Sean?  Martin?

Also please can we swap phone numbers & emails?  Tuesday at latest!

    Re: More changes/cars etc

    Dear all,

We now have David Turner and Steve Farleigh (who reminded me he was the first to sign up for helping the swimmers).
I suggest we meet at shadwell Friday evening at 18:30 ready to leave at 19:00 - arrive Folkestone about 21:00.

I think we might have a boat carrying problem to solve.
Pete can certainly take 2 boats but we'll check his rack tomorrow to see whether it might take 3.  If not then we're short of a boat place.
Is Martin away?  I've not heard anything from him and it would be helpful to know when he'd driving to Folkestone/Dover!  Does anyone have a phone number for him?
So far as I know Ailien, Dan, Steve and I are planning to paddle with the swimmers - but they might not need all four of us at once.

    D. = driver.

    CAR 1 (traveling Friday night)
    D. Nick, Dan, Ailien + gear + 3 boats.  OK

    CAR 2 (traveling Fri)
    D. Pete, Sean, David + gear + 2 or 3 boats???
Could take extra person and gear.

    CAR 3 (traveling ???)
    D. Martin, Steve + gear + 2boats.
    Could take extra person.

I'll be coming and I can bring a spare boat if necessary.

    Re: More changes/cars etc

    Chris,

If i could use your spare boat it would save Nick and I the trouble of trying to get my boat back on saturday night or on tuesday. I'd still be asking someone else to take my paddle back but that's less of a hardship. and i can meet people to help unload on the sunday.
Is your spare boat plastic, as I think i'd be happier _not_ mashing someone's fiberglass boat on a pebble beach not that i want to mash yur boat at all :)
