'Three Star' open canoe course 15, 22 & 29 July

A few people have expressed an interest in taking their canoeing to the next level and I am proposing to run a 'Three Star' course on the above dates on The Basin.

I am not qualified to sign off Three Star but I can help to fine tune flat water skills to the Three Star standard. Anyone who wants the badge will subsequently need to book an assessment with a commercial coach.

This course would be for anyone who already has their new Two Star or old style Open Canoe Two Star and wants to move on from there.

To begin with I can offer six places on a first come first served basis and I may be able to expand that if I can recruit another coach. So, if you would like to take part please sign up below.

Dan, we can accommodate both you and Sarah.

Rob, suggest you come along for the first session on 15/7 and we'll at least get you going with some things to work on. I am hoping Nick J can then take your place for the later two sessions as he can't make the first one.

    So the participants will be:

    Tom
    James
    Sam
    Malcolm
    Dan
    Sarah
    Rob/Nick J

Afraid we'll have to limit it to this list for now but if anyone else is interested do add your name below so that we can gauge interest for next time or offer you a place if someone drops out.

Luke, I would like to do this course if someone has to drop out, or if it is run again. Are you able to do the 2 star open canoe assessment? if so and if there are enough people interested I would like to get that done as well. Jon

Jon, you are top of the reserve list for now (so if anyone else can no longer make it please let us know).

After this course I will be away for August so I won't be able to do any Two Star assessments until September. We do have several other L2 coaches who can sign this off though so please have a word with one of the training officers, Sarah or Dan, to see if they can organise an assessment as there are several others who need to do it.

    Luke,

Like Jon I need my 2 Star Open Canoeing, in my case so that I can go on a L1 coaching course in Sep. I can do a session with Dan next week at the Basin, but am wondering how I can get signed off in time.

    Just to let you know...

I can't help you next week but i thought I'd respond in case other people were generally wondering.

Sarah and I are currently working on a couple of ways to get people signed off on the open boat component of the 2* as soon as posible, and we hope to have someone who will be able to sign off coaching at the basin for at least a few sessions over the next month.

That won't help you as i was planning for it to be in action whilst the 3* open boat thing was going on (the 2*s need to practice carrying and storing boats anyway *grin*). Sorry. If you definitely definitely need to get a 2* assessment next week, and were willing to pay for a coach, the basin might be able to provide someone at short notice (perhaps on the Thursday night?). It might not be too expensive either... Just a thought

Re: Just to let you know...

I couldn't have made those dates but I am interested.  Could I be on a list for a possible future course?

    Thanks,

    Charlie
