    Paddling Glasses

Most of you know what my eyesight is like, if you don't already then it's suffice to say it's not great :-D

I can't get with contacts, and plus I don't really like the idea of having them washed out if (when) I capsize on a river, so I've done a bit of digging around and found these:

They are wet glasses available with prescription lenses for around £70, they're polarized too so they're great for eliminating sun glare from the water. Mine arrived this morning (in plenty of time for Austria) I got them from here

Haha, I think that's probably not a bad idea.

I'll probably find that I give up the sport now that I can see what I'm getting myself into!

    Re: Paddling Glasses

Your ones look really good - especially if you really do need a proper "prescription", and not off the shelf ones.

I just need bifocal readers - and recenty got some of these ones - bifocal sunglassses in stock strengths. Obviously not right for everyone, but they are only £12.95, and apparently "super trendy" ! (meaning the white matches your ipod lead, I supppose). They're not designed to get wet, but are almost entirely plastic including the hinges, so don't seem to mind. You need a cord/floater as well, of course

    Paul,

I think you need to do a full test of these.  I suggest throwing yourself in the biggest hole you can find, without your boat and let us know is they still stay on when you evently resurface.  I reckon that would be a great test..

Thanks Tony, potentially very useful for the long sited SK'ers amongst us. Polarising too (not) .. ipod colour .. also available in black .. cool man. What kind of floaters are we talking about here, used wine corks?

Thanks, Yatesey as well. Just noticed your glasses come with a prescription bi-focal option for £15 extra and I've just seen the following on the same sight for the trendy white glasses:

    Floating glasses cord
available in blue black or red.
    Imported from Germany
    Will hold up to 21g

    Re: Paddling Glasses

I tend to use contacts and have only ever lost one whilst rolling and generally splashing about in the water.  Ok sometimes water gets behind them and makes you blink a bit but you can usually stay co-ordinated.

A friend who works at Specsavers told me to ignore the crap they tell you about not swimming in them.

These look good. The floating cords I was thinking of are just strips of neoprene, £3.95 from Decathlon.
