Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - TRIAL FIT

    Sarah

It would be great if you could drive my car. It's 12 years old so I am not precious about it.

If your insurance for an existing car is on a comprehensive basis, you should be covered to drive other cars on a third party basis. That will be fine. If not, there is www.dayinsure.com

    Cheers,

    SEAN

    Sarah W:

Dan and I can swap to afternoon.

Sean, if you are still looking for someone to drive your car to Gravesend I could do this although I appreciate that you may not want just anyone to drive your car so no problems if I'm not on the responsible drivers list.

Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Thanks to all for helping this complex bit of organisation towards the finishing line (to Dan and Sarah in particular for switching shifts).

I've updated the main posting at the top with the draft boat sharing plan, repeated here for convenience:

    AM PM BOAT
Chris (AM leader) ? OB (Aquanaut) ?
Charlie (AM leader) Dan Basin Romany
    Pete Sarah Basin Explorer
MikeOR Ailien (PM Leader) OB (DaveT's Orion)
TonyR (AM Co-ord) JonEeles (PM Co-ord) OB (Tony's Viking)
    Sean Liz Nordkapp
    ? Cliff ?

As you see, we're not quite there because Cliff still needs an AM partner. If there's someone out there who's still pondering whether to join the trip and claim an AM slot, now would be a good time ! Alternatively, if Sean and Dan/Sarah are doing a car swap, is there any chance of taking Cliff's boat (still to be chosen) to Gravesend on the roof ? (I appreciate this could be a liability). Again, any suggestions welcomed ... !

Charlie/Pete: I have paired you up with Dan/Sarah, but without any real thought as to who takes which boat. I assume you will sort this out between you and tell me if it's different from what I've noted here.

I'm leaving it to individuals to make sure they are happy with the boats allocated, with this Tuesday night as a possible tryout opportunity. You will also need to sort out with your boat share partner which bits of kit (if any) you plan to share and to be clear about who is booking and collecting what. That includes PADDLES obviously. The trip leaders and co-ordinators will not organise kit for you.

I'll be acting as AM Co-ordinator and Jon Eeles as AM Co-ordinator. As well as keeping in touch with each other, we also want texts (or calls) from all our respective team members on the day, proving they're out of bed and know it's happening! So paddlers, please text us your names sometime during the week, so we have your numbers stored and ready.
    My number will be 07948-805084.
(Jon - please can you either post your number or message it to PM team members)

There'll be another posting or two during the week, so please keep watching!

MikeOR reminds me there are toilets and a nice little waterfront cafe at Gravesend where the changeover occurs, hence the likelihood of tea and stickies etc. You won't starve!

    Cheers

    Tony

I am rapidly losing my enthusiasm for doing both ways as the day approaches, so I would be very happy to be Cliff's partner. I have no particular preference for AM or PM. I'm happy to paddle a basin or THCC boat if Cliff has reserved one; alternatively Cliff and I could use my own boat (not the folder) if I can leave it in the river compound for a few days.

OK Pete, I'll bring the Aquanaut. I'm happy to do the PM shift.

    Folks,

I may have confused things by tabulating Cliff as AM, when he is actually PM ! I've now corrected the postings above.

So if Chris paddles AM, and drops out of the PM leg (as he now proposes) that brings us into numerical balance - but the boat sharing still needs a bit more negotation...

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Hello the PM team. I  will be the PM coordinator next saturday. My mobile number is 07831 886708. would you all let me know your mobile numbers by next Thursday? Any one who is going to be late or has to drop out, should call me and your AM boat share partner so make sure you know their number. The train to Gravesend costs £8.80 for a day return from London Bridge Station, there are plenty of trains, the 12.59 will get us to gravesend at 13.45 in time to meet the AM group at 2.00. Could we meet at the ticket office at 12.30? We can share the cost of the tickets with our boat share partners. At the changeover, don't forget to give them their ticket back to London.  As we all have partners there will be no empty boats on the PM trip, so I am assuming that Sarah will not be driving Seans car to Gravesend. if this is not the case please let me know. Dont forget to bring your lunch. Any problems, call me.

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Sorry not to have posted.  I've been away in Ireland.  I'm very happy to share a boat with Dan as suggested (though he paddles left-handed -grr.)

Dan -do I have to carry ALL your safety kit with me?  I'm worried the boat might sink.

Looking forward to Saturday.  See you all tomorrow as well.

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Thanks Tony and all. I don't have a preference on boat as long as I can get into it so probably best swap with a tallish chap, Im 6ft.

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Using my own boat won't work very well so I suggest Cliff and I use one of the THCC Aquanauts. We will also need to book a RH paddle, BA and spraydeck. BTW I am about 6ft as well.

    Charlie

You will be pleased to hear that whilst on holiday Dan purchased himself the following:

    1. an all round white light

    2. a mega nifty tow rope

    3. a new paddlefloat

all the more kit to help sink your boat with !

    Sarah

Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

    Folks,

I believe this is where we're up to:

    AM PM BOAT
Chris (AM leader) Cliff THCC Aquanaut
Charlie (AM leader) Dan Basin Romany
    Pete Sarah Basin Explorer
MikeOR Ailien (PM Leader) OB (DaveT's Orion)
TonyR (AM Co-ord) JonEeles (PM Co-ord) OB (Tony's Viking)
    Sean Liz THCC Nordkapp

However - Pete still has a problem fitting in the Explorer (?) so we aren't quite sorted yet.

If no one has a better solution, then I'm happy to swap with Pete and the paddle the AM Explorer, leaving Pete and Jon to pair up over a boat of their choosing (could be mine, or one of the THCC ones) ?

Well, I said it was going to be complicated...:)

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

I am happy to share a boat with Pete. We could use my boat but I don't think it is any larger than the explorer. I will be at the basin today, Tuesday. Pete could you come today and  choose a boat you are happy with? If you can't make it call me 07831886708.

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Errm...sorry everyone, but here's an even better suggestion from Chris:

    AM PM BOAT
    Pete Cliff THCC Aquanaut
Charlie (AM leader) Dan Basin Romany
Chris (AM leader) Sarah Basin Explorer
MikeOR Ailien (PM Leader) OB (DaveT's Orion)
TonyR (AM Co-ord) JonEeles (PM Co-ord) OB (Tony's Viking)
    Sean Liz THCC Nordkapp

So Pete, you would just need to check out the Aquanaut, which sounds like the best choice for you - and Jon/I return to charing the Viking (try out tonight).

    Everyone happy ?
    TonyR
