Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Hi Everyone, I need to know basin kit (BAs, Cag's) so that I can let Mike know so that we can figure out how the access is going to work.

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

I'm unsure how the kit booking is being organised for stuff that is not boats but for Dan and I I can say the following:

    neither of us need PFD's or spraydecks; Dan will need a left handed paddle; we can both bring towlines; we can also bring some flares (pls let us know if we need to bring these); I will have my paddle for the journey back to Shadwell;

The group will need all the bilge pumps, splits and long tow ropes that the club possesses along with the trip kit (including the group shelter) and a VHF radio would also be a good idea

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

I won't need any club or basin kit except the boat (basin Explorer).

Sarah, do you have a particular one in mind? What about footrests, shall I just bring all the foam inserts I can find?

one of the explorers has a wibbly wobbly seat - can we use the one with the seat that stays still (although if we end up with the wibbly wobbly one it is paddleable).

for footrests I have been using an inflated dry bag but was hoping to look round this evening and find something a bit more solid to use such as foam so foam inserts would be good.  Are you bringing your own paddle?  I am bringing mine so that will work.

I was going to use basin kit (bouyancy aid) but I now don't need anything.

    Thanks.

I will have a better idea tonight but right now I will need a cag and BA from the basin and boat/paddle from the club. Hope to chat and clarify tonight.

Yes, I am bringing my own paddle and other kit and, unless you need to use any of it on your leg of the trip, I will take it all home with me on the train.

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - BOAT SHARES

Roz won't be around at 8 so I'll be around on Saturday morning to give you access,

    Mike has stated the following;

"This trip will be able to access those parts of the site which are not alarmed by your own keys. Someone will need to be here on Friday evening to gather together any of the Centre’s kit ( a request was made for a buoyancy aid last night) and store it in your club cupboard. The Clubs office will not be accessible. We need to get a complete and final list of kit for this trip..."

Shadwell to Gravesend - FINAL ARRANGEMENTS

    Folks,

72 hours out, the weather looks certain enough that we can confirm the trip is ON.
The possibility of headwinds (one way or the other), could have lead us the adjust the handover time at Gravesend. However - it looks like we will have the prevailing, gentle Westerly that my timings assumed. Hence the plan remains as per the original posting, ie the AM team departs 08:00 for ETA Gravesend 14:00.

I believe we are more or less sorted out on Boats and Personell, except that MartinK would like to join us, so we are currently trying to sort out a boat-share partner.

    AM team:

    • We have to be on the water by 08:00 for this plan to work, so please be there in plenty of time !
I plan to arrive 07:00. If you are late, we will time you out !
    • Please TEXT me in the morning, on the number I have already given you (07948-805084), so I know you are up and running.
    • Pete - I don't have have you mobile number yet; pls can you mail/text me this in advance ?

    Everyone:

Boat and kit access is complicated because we need access so early. MikeT won't release keys or kit in advance, so PaulY has offered to meet us with keys at 07:00 at the basin - which is frankly well beyond the call of duty ! We will only have access to the the boat cage and club cupboard, NOT the main building (so no toilets or changing rooms).

Because of this, we need to collect all basin kit and stash it in the THCC club cupboard on Friday night, so it is imperative to get your orders in ASAP. I'm also looking for volunteer(s) to organise this !. I could do it (or help) myself, but I don't live locally and don't actually use any basin kit (so am not particularly familiar with it).

    Cheers

    Left handed morning people

Is anyone paddling in the morning left handed? I was considering paddling with a right handed paddle to keep things simple but looking at the length/duration i might end up  slowing the group down as i've not done a long distance like this.

If not I'll pop down when people are there thurday or friday night and pick up a left handed paddle to bring with me - and I'll ask charlie to  use his spliting paddle - will that work for yuo charlie?

    Re: Left handed morning people

re. kit: I only need a club paddle which I assume we'll have access to if we're allowed into our cupboard.

re. paddle for dan: I don't have a split (must buy one soon) but I'm happy to carry an unsplit paddle back on the train if needed.  The right handed one I'll be using is still available for you to paddle back with if you want.

re. Friday afternoon: I might be able to gather kit and stash it in the cupboard.  I just need final clearance from Claire to spend a third day at the basin this week.  It's not far away though for me so should be fine.  Could someone do a final list of what I need to move on Friday afternoon.  Shall we say if you haven't posted by 3pm on Friday then it's too late?

See half of you early on Saturday.

Re: Shadwell to Gravesend - FINAL ARRANGEMENTS

    Tony,

Because this trip is classed as offsite (i.e. outside of the realms of the Westminster Bridge and the Thames Barrier) Mike has asked that you fill in a consent form as SBOAC kit is being used. This can be found in the SBOAC H&S policy, I can email this to you if you don't have a copy.
