Shadwell to Richmond return - August tides

    Hi All

After Tony's post yesterday I have looked at the tide times in August and it looks like there are a couple of possible days:

2 August - 9.39 low tide and 15.25 high tide

16 August - 8.33 low tide, 14.38 high tide and 21.15 low tide

30 August 8.33 low tide, 14.22 high tide and 21.11 low tide

These are the tides at London Bridge and any tide that still exists at Richmond will be later.

    Sarah

According to http://www.pla.co.uk/pdfs/hydro/Aug08.pdf available at Tide Tables > Leisure Users (Port of London Site).

    2nd  Aug is a Spring Tide: 09.39 0.7 m, 15.25 6.9m, 22.18 0.1m

    16 th Aug between Spring and Neap: 08.33 1.0 m, 14.38 6.6 m, 21.15 0.8m

    30 th Aug Spring Tide 08.32 0.8m, 14.22 6.8 m, 21.11 0.1 m

    O London, see
Swelling with naval pride, the pride of thee!
Wide, deep, unsullied Thames, meandering glides,
and bears thy wealth on mild majestic tides.

Re: Shadwell to Richmond return - August tides

    All,

For those interested - I haven't forgotten about this !

I'm currently just fishing around to see when any trip leaders / local experts are available (though we arguably don't need any in this direction) - also whether the IOW club trip pencilled-in for AUG 16/17 is going ahead (in which case, that W/E is best avoided) and whether there's any interest/prospect of a link up with the Richmond club...

I agree the dates Sarah lists are all viable - and there are possibly 2 others : JULY 19/20 and SEPT 13/14.

Richmond HW is 61 minutes after London Bridge. My guess is we should allow for 5 hours paddling each way, plus overlay time at Richmond of ~ 1 hour. Does that feel about right ?

Remember we don't have to have 100% tide support all the time (ie we can punch a bit if needed) and arriving back in the dark is not too serious.

    Cheers
    TonyR
