These next 2 Tuesdays have tides that are good for extended river paddles of the kind we have done in previous years.

The idea is to sneak off work early (leaving a cardboard cutout of yourself in place) and put in at 17:30 instead of 19:00. This gives 3 hours padling instead of the usual 1.5 hous, so we can go further, get a change of scenery and get to enjoy these nice long summer evenings before they start fading away...

These outings really need "turnaround tides" - which is exactly what we've got for the next 2 Tuesdays:

TUE July 8th  HW 18:35 > Chelsea Bridge ?
TUE July 15th LW 18:40 > Thames Barrier ?

There used to be objectors to this in previous years (when the club was smaller) as it could mean there was no one left to accompany those who still wanted to paddle at 19:00. I'm assuming that's no longer an issue.

I'm in for both dates. The Calendar shows coaching as having priority on the 8th, but I don't think there are any courses taking place on this date, unless someone arranges something at the last minute. I'd bring my own kayak, but unless I could park at the Basin I don't think this would be possible as it's residents parking in the area till 6.30 pm, I think.

I would really like to join both weeks and can come early. But I would like to know: we'll be back normal time, right? we have spending meeting on the coming Tuesday, so I don't want to be late.

Sorry I didn't spell that out ! Yes, the idea on both weeks is to just to start earlier. A normal finish is expected, ie ~20:30

A couple of people have mentioned the Tuesday 8th meeting. We can make sure we get back in time for that by watching the time and turning around when we judge it's about right. That's probably around Chelsea Bridge, assuming we start on time. Wind looks to be Westerly, which helps the return - and tide is friendly both ways (which is why this date is proposed)

For tomorrow (Jul 8th) I'm currently still trying to get confirmation from Yatesy that the early access to the basin is OK.
Anyone happen to know what the arrangement is ?

Also - I haven't booked anything. I assume we can just show up and take boats first-come-first-served as we usually do on Tuesdays

Not booking should be fine if there's no training course planned - tomorrow is coaching priority on the boats-Tuesday. I'll post on the coaching forum to be 100% sure we haven't missed anyone's plan to use sea boats for coaching tomorrow.

Whilst it is very likely that there will be someone at the Basin to give us keys, it is good that you have asked Paul to check it's OK with the Basin - in addition to getting into the kit, we e.g. need confirmation that there are no kids in the changing rooms at that time.

(Has Paul confirmed he will check with Mike? has it been pointed out to him that this is not something to deal with on Wednesday afternoon along with other equipment bookings?)

I think the only restriction might be on use of the changing rooms if kids are around. Not to use them at the same time. To post a guard outside the door if we are using them and kids are on site, or to turn up changed. Also the Basin uses Sea Kayaks occasionally. Sorry for duplication - Anne posted while I was writing my post.
