    Coaching weekend with Ray Goodwin?

I met Ray Goodwin in the pub in N. Wales last weekend while I was doing my L3 training.

He's a legend in UK open boating and have more than 25 years experience in coaching and have also taken part in BBC 2's Ray Mears Bushcraft Series.

It would be great if the club could get a group together and do a weekend course with him covering open canoing on moving water!

    Check out his website: http://www.raygoodwin.com/

sounds like fun so long as we dont have to make rucksaks out of trees and eat small fluffy creatures whilst they still have their fluff on - given his notoriety is this not going to be v expensive?
Love many, trust few and always paddle your own canoe

Put my name on the list - but I presume that this is for Sept/Oct?

(The roof bars are too small to bring a tree along to make my canoe though!)

Yeah, but Jonno, there are some brilliant kits from B&Q - MDF 'trees' with easy to carve centres just £99.99

I'm up for it.  Bring on Ray Mears - I can make my own boat using some techniques I gathered from my trip to the Viking Museum in Roskilde.  And as everyone knows am not adverse to slaying the odd fluffy creature!

Poor little magpie.  Maybe Ray can help you hone your technique!

    I'm interested too.
I know I'm not perfect but I'm so close it scares me.

Re: Coaching weekend with Ray Goodwin?

Sounds like there are plenty of people interested!

However, he seem to be quite expensive and it might be an idea to do one or two weekend with another coach (Kayakojacko, Tryweryn, Plas-y-Brenin, etc) before spending a lot on money on top coaching...

I will not have time to organise this - I suggest anyone on the list of posters above get in touch with Ray (see his website) and ask if he's free for a weekend or one of the other options!

Re: Coaching weekend with Ray Goodwin?

Website for this man is: http://www.raygoodwin.com/Booking_info.htm and he charges according to this table:

    No. People

    1

    2

    3 or more

    4 or More

    (A)Cost Per Person Per Day

(for those with all their own equipment)

    £140

    £80

    £65

Set fee of £200 for the group

    (B) Cost Per Person Per Day

    (including equipment)

    £160

    £100

    £85

    £80 per person

so, cheapest and most efficient would be to have a largish group using our own kit. If we can't take our own kit then a smaller group might be more advantageous.

    What do you all reckon?
