I have talked about organising a sea kayaking trip to Sweden for the last 6 months and have finally got around to plan something!
We will paddle on the west coast of Sweden starting in the town Lysekil and finishing in the small town Marstrand 4 days later, less than 80 km.
It’s peak season so there will be a lot of other people and sailing boats around but the area is beautiful and there is thousands of small granite islands to explore with a kayak. Yolanda and I paddled a bit further North in August last year; you can find some pictures from that trip here.
This trip will be ok for anyone with a normal fitness level (can paddle gently for 5-6 hours/day - pretty much anyone can do that!), complete beginners to experts are welcome! I see this trip like a kayak/camping sightseeing of the beautiful Swedish archipelago with some good food and beer/wine in the evenings.

Take the Airport bus to central Gothenburg and stay one night at HI hostel Stigbergsliden. Beers in one of the local pubs. |

Early start. Bus/train to Lyselkil where Reidar from Marstrandskajaker will met us with the kajaks. Quick shopping trip to the local supermarket to buy food for the next 3.5 days. On the water by 13.00. Paddling for 2-3 hours to one of the many islands and set camp. |

Paddling south with possible stops in one of the small fishing communities along the way. Camping on one of the islands outside Mollösund. |

Friday 13/07/2007 |
We continue paddling South past Kyrkesund and make a stop at Åstol to try the fresh smoked prawns and a cold beer in the harbour. Camping on one of the islands near Dyrön. |

Saturday 14/07/2007 |
Short paddle down to Marstrand to return the kayaks. Ferry across to the island and shower & sauna at the hostel we are staying at. Marstrand is a popular place in the summer and there’s plenty of restaurants and bars to try out and you can do guided tours at fortress. |

Sunday 15/07/2007 |
Ferry across to the main land and bus down to Gothenburg. We drop the bags at the central station and do some sightseeing before heading out to the airport in the evening and flights back to London. |

Flights: £80 with Ryan Air (£25 cheaper if you can leave early on Tuesday!)
Airport bus: 2 * £5
Hostel in Gothenburg: £15
Transport to Lysekil: £20
Kayak hire and transport: £60
Hostel in Marstrand: £20
Bus Marstrand-Gothenburg: £20
Food/camping gas: £30
Beer/drinks/etc: ?
Total: £255 + what you spend in the bar and some minor expenses (tram tickets etc).
