Pool session possibly on the 15th April

    Hello,

Would it be possible for a group of 5 or 6 who training up for our 2* to have a pool session on or after the 15th (easy on the date)

We were talking about his last night and the group is made up of Hannah, Tristan, Cliff, Richard, myself and possibly Russell.

I am not sure if there is an instructor available to take the session.

    Thanks in advance.

    Phil.

Yes I would like to come to a pool session on the 15th.  I have already done my two star but I need to practise support strokes and if there is anyone there to teach me to learn to roll.  Please book me in.

    Hi guys,

The Basin have requested to use the pool on 15 April. I would have posted earlier, but I just got the final confirmation. However, there's nothing planned for the 22nd, so no reason why you can't have your session then.

    Thanks

I'm happy to help out with the rolling for beginners!

Re: Pool session possibly on the 15th April

As it seems it's not going to be possible to have a pool session on the 15th I would like to join the pool session on the 22nd if there is one.

I'm keen to start to learn to roll although after the negative reaction Hannah got last week for asking about this I won't hold my breath, if you'll excuse the pun.

Re: Pool session possibly on the 15th April

    Hi all

To confirm what we agreed to in the pub last night.  The following group have committed to going to the pool next week, Tues 22 April, with Ailien and Martin K kindly agreeing to coach/chaperone [thanks guys, it is appreciated]:

Hannah, Phil, Cliff, Tristan, Richard, Russell and another Russell too I believe.

Does someone need to book the pool?

    Richard

Re: Pool session possibly on the 15th April

    Hey Richard,

Firstly,  The pool is available every week of the year unless we have aggreed to allow the youth group use for the night.  If that is the case it will be posted on the web site (that was the case last week).   It is a good Idea to post you intention that way it is possible to control the number of people in the pool (I think there are only 6 oe 8 boats up there..) so by posting you are sort of reserving a place. You can carry boats up there providing they are clean... I am not too sure if they are keen on sea kayaks though?

As for rolling,  I suggest to try in talk Helen into going as she is an excellant teacher for rolling (and kayaking in general as well).   After her coaching I was able to roll on my first attempt...

    Have fun...

    Geoff

Re: Pool session possibly on the 15th April

Thanks for the glowing praise Geoff - but you have to take some credit for being a super student!

I'm working in the pool on a one-to-one basis with someone next week but happy to help steer people in the right direction.  I am also down to take the 2 star group for several weeks in May so if you are in the 2 star group we can arrange for one of these weeks to be in the pool.

Not sure who Hannah got a negative response from but my policy is it's never too early to learn to roll if that's what you want.  Everyone is different in what stage they feel they want to give it a go - depends on their confidence in the water.  Once you have learned it will give you loads of confidence to try stuff where before you would have been worried about capsizing.

Roll on the summer when we can all practice in the Basin without the icecream headCool Kayak

Re: Pool session possibly on the 15th April

If there is anyone interested in trying rolling a sea kayak, we have a smallish green one that fits through the staircase of the pool. We have taken it  earlier and the pool has no problems at all if we take it along, providing it is clean.

    See you all on Tuesday!

I would love to go for a paddle in the pool tomorrow if there is still spaces left.

Re: Pool session possibly on the 15th April

A big thank-you to Ailien for coaching us at the pool session yesterday.  We'd anticipated it for an age and it was well worth it; I think we all felt on a bit of a high afterwards.
