    Priority: coaching Vs river

    Dear all,
    At the Sea Kayaking meeting earlier this year it was generally agreed that the best temporary way to address the shortage of boats would be to give priority of use to coaching and river paddling alternately.  The suggested regime was flawed (because not all months have the same days/weeks; this table seems the clearest way forwards. 
    Each week is numbered (as in most diaries).
    Priority use is then fixed for that week.
    If anyone knows a better location to post this on our website please feel free.

    Hi Nick,

     I agree that's the best way to resolve this at the moment.

    Maybe it's worth printing it in A3 paper and sticking it on the windows in the club's office so that on Tuesday's people can see what the priority is on the spot. I can do that next Tuesday.

    Another important aspect of it is to educate sea paddlers on this. The old habbit of rushing and grabbing a boat and putting it aside ready for a river run should not be the case on days when coaching is the priority. New joiners and begginers who arrive around 6.30 should be given the chance to try sea boats on the basin on those days. I think this needs to be made clear to frequent river paddlers.

    Maybe a way to make sure that on "coaching" days begginers will still find boats is to agree with sea paddlers that they can take club's and basin's boats out of the cage only after 6.45.

     Finally, I heard we were waiting some new sea boats. What's the latest update on this? I heard that there was a deadline to spend the extra budget allocated for sea boats, are we within target on this? I am happy to help to speed things up if there is a need.

    Dear all,

    Maybe this can be of help? Please find below the dates on which the people that are part of a sea kayak course have priority to the sea kayaks.

    These dates should now show in the calendar.

    There's no specific deadline on spending on the new boats however if it does drag on long enough there will be further spending meetings into 2008 and people may start asking whether the budget is sensibly allocated if it isn't being used.

    Please can we swap a bit, so that the second Tuesday of each month has the priority for coaching.

    The beginners courses get to try out the sea kayaks on their second week and we have now synced the beginners course to start on the first Tuesday of each month.
