Intermediate/Slightly Challenging Isle of Wight Surf++ Weekend?

Out in the tidal races in Anglesey I discovered a few things I would like to work on:

    - getting a sea kayak to turn where I want it when surfing

    - rolling on my bad side when the current forces me to do so

If I speak to Owen at Isle of Wight Sea Kayaking about organising a weekend for us with surf and rough enough water to work on our skills - who'ld want to come? We probably won't find a weekend that works for everybody, but it;s good to know whether we're potentially 1 or 8 when speaking to him...

Intended level: Not an introduction to sea kayaking, but the next intermediate level; for people with good boat control on easy water, and comfortable with, and wanting to play in, waves.

Intended focus: Paddling skills, not coaching, not navigation, not rescues - though I assume we'll pick up some of each and maybe a lot of the latter :-)

This looks like what I want - 2 days of this:

Cost: £75 Dates: contact for details

They sound like things most of us would definitely have problems with, so I'd be interested.

    O London, see
Swelling with naval pride, the pride of thee!
Wide, deep, unsullied Thames, meandering glides,
and bears thy wealth on mild majestic tides.

Joanna and I are interested, would have to be from late July onwards to work for us though.

Look forward to going out in the wild water with you!

It's not really clear to me how much you all have already been on the sea. If sea experience is very limited, it would probably be a good idea to find a chance to get out on some calm sea between now and then and keep going on the river on Tuesdays.

I was hoping to do earlier than august, but have no idea if this will be possible to arrange. Will wait till after next Tuesday and chatting with people at the BBQ before I call Owen. I suspect we have some more interested that have not immediately responded in this thread.

    Hi Anne,

Not sure whether you've progressed this idea but I'd love to come along

Most of the July weekends, I have at least 1 day free

    Cheers

    Hello,

I would love to  join as well depending on a date.

I am preparing for my 3* exam so should be fine.

Re: Intermediate/Slightly Challenging Isle of Wight Surf++ Weekend?

Sorry guys - doesn't look like I'll get a chance to organise this. The Isle of Wight guys are too busy to return my calls, and my remaining time in England is starting to be quite full with other events.

Someone else please pick up the baton and speak to them. If you get it sorted, I might take a trip back to the UK to join you :-)

The Isle of Man (long) weekend 14-18 august should hopefully give some opportunities to play in waves. (See thread started by Klaudia for more info on this)
