Paddler Arrested at JJs for not paying £3 River Fees

Huge thread on this on UKRGB but has now been picked up by the BBC.

Will be very interesting to see what happens with this...

A very good article clarifing the WCA (Welsh Canoeing Assoc.) position on access.

I am all in favour of supporting this guy fully. I'm quite happy never to use their dodgy changing rooms again.

    This is utter bo!!ocks!

If he needs financial support for his legal defence the club should make a very substantial donation.

The Police should be catching real criminals, not bugging canoeists.

Police should not be involved in disputes over access to land, until there is a court judgement.

The UKRG page is here: Guidebook Community Pages :: View topic - JJs had me arrested tonight,

I'd support concerns about wasting police time, bullying, collection of DNA, but also see the case as worth supporting because of river access in legal terms anyway.

He is actually being charged with Fraud under the 2006 Fruad act..  "Dishonestly using a service without paying.."    The Service being the water / modifications made to the river...

I will be supprised if it goes to court..

But the legal basis on which the "services" are being provided is disputed, and the police should not take one side over another until that dispute is sorted
