4 star w/e in Anglesey with Aled Williams

I have been in touch with Aled Williams about arranging a sea kayaking weekend for those keen to do their 4 star assessment. The idea would be to combine this with an introduction to paddling in tidal races and generally enjoy some paddling off the Anglesey coast with an expert guide.

Aled is an accomplished coach and the man behind Rockpool Kayaks so we will have the opportunity to try out these boats over the weekend as an added benefit.

I have suggested to him that we should schedule this for September. I know it seems a long way off but I would like to gauge interest now so that I can start to firm up the plans and figure out the likely cost.

I propose that we go for one of the following weekends (there is already a club trip to the Wye planned for 2/3 September):

    September 9/10, 16/17 or 23/24

Please reply below if you are interested and indicate if any of these weekends don't suit.

count me in .. I like tidal races. Not so keen on any sort of assessment though. Exams are really not my scene :)

all of those weekends are free at the moment.

    will they provide boats etc

    Hi Luke,

Me and Mattias are definitely interested, although we can only make the weekend of the 23rd/24th of September.

We are probably not good enough to go for the 4 star assessment, but we'd love to paddle in the tidal race and gain sea kayaking experience.

    Regards,

    Yolanda

I would like to join this trip too. At the moment I am free in SEptember, but would prefer it towards the middle or end as start of term is quite busy! Not sure if I am quite ready for my 4 star but would like to find out!

Sorry this has gone a bit quiet. I have just chased Aled Williams again and hope to get dates and prices from him. As soon as I do I'll update everyone.

Re: 4 star w/e in Anglesey with Aled Williams

Apologies to all but I have not been able to make any progress with the plans for this trip. Despite numerous chasers, I have not had a response from Aled and I suspect it is now a bit late to try and find an alternative coach/venue.

If people have already set aside the date in their diaries it may be worth trying to organise something else instead but I am afraid I will have to leave that to someone else as I am still a bit tied up with family commitments.

    Sorry to disappoint you all.

If anyone is interested I have just had an email from Dave Evans at the Cwm Pennant centre in North Wales saying that they have two places remaining on a 4 star training and assessment weekend on 16/17 September.

    Contact cwmpennant@hillingdongrid.org for details.

    Hi Luke,

I can't attend that weeekend but would have liked to, also I wanted to know what kind of experience level you would need to do a 4* sea kayak course?

I once read that alcohol is very bad for your health, so I gave it up.

    Reading that is.
