1-3 * Open Boating Coaching on Thursdays

    C2

Kayakojacko can offer us some open boating coaching on 4 Thursday nights at Shadwell Basin this spring.

This would give us the opportunity to get the open boating section of the club going and allow people to get their 1-3 * qualifications.

The first three sessions would be training for 1-3 * (depending on what level you are at already) and the last session would be used for assessments for your appropriate level.

    Training Dates: 15/03/2007, 22/03/2007, 29/03/2007
    Assessment Date: 12/04/2007
    Time: Thursday 19.00-21.00
    Place: Shadwell Basin
Cost: £80 (plus £3-6 for the BCU registration)

We need to be at least 8 people to run this course.

    Instructors:
Please note that you need to have open canoe 2 * when the new UKCC BCU system kicks in (later this year) to be able to convert your existing qualification.

Please respond to this message to book your place on this!

Re: 1-3 * Open Boating Coaching on Thursdays

    Just to let you know the basin have also proposed the following dates for open canoe days;

Sat 19th May, Saturday 7th July, Saturday 15th September.

    Cost is 30GBP per day.

I have asked them to do a 2 star assesment/course, on one of these but yet to hear back.

Matt, do you know when those that have not done the qualifying trips would do them? Would this be somehting people would arrange themselves seperately?

    Lots of options anyway.

Nice thread-hijacking Jon...I think it's best if we start a separate discussion about those dates to avoid any confusion… Wink

I know it had been talks about basin run sessions but this is the first time I see the dates; are they set in stone and did they just tell us?

Weeknights would suite me better since my weekends tend to be fully booked during the summer, can you check if the basin can do this for us?

I will check with Jacko about the required trips.

Re: 1-3 * Open Boating Coaching on Thursdays

Matt, is that £80 per session or for the whole 4 nights?

I might be up for it, just have a very busy March at work and can't guarantee not being stuck somewhere else in England - if I miss a session does that mean I can't do the assessment?

I don't think so, I would guess you can do the assessment if you are ready for it.

I once read that alcohol is very bad for your health, so I gave it up.

    Reading that is.

Matt, I would hate to see this fall through for lack of numbers. Should we/can we advertise it elsewhere or is it strictly club only?

Re: 1-3 * Open Boating Coaching on Thursdays

I don't think it should be restricted to the club members...What does the club/basin rules say about it?

    Mattias Altin:

What does the club/basin rules say about it?

As the qualified coach all liability falls on the the guy taking the session & the company he works for as this is not a club session but a jacko course, that is being run for some members of our club that requested it, at a venue convenient to our members and paid for by the individuals direct to 'Jacko Ltd' with no club intervention other than to provide boats at a charge of 2.50 per person - not to be forgotton.

No reason why not to open it up.  Might get new members as a result?

Unless anyone can think of a reason why we shouldn't?

Re: 1-3 * Open Boating Coaching on Thursdays

If you still need numbers to do this please Count Dan and me in  (so long as we are not likely to hold everyone back)- if it's already full we'll hang on until the basin's courses.
