The '''Thames Tunnel''' is a major new London sewer - planned for construction between 2013 and 2020.

Depending on the exact route chosen, the tunnel will be between 23km and 32km long.
The tunnel will be 7.2m in diameter and will start 40m deep in Acton and follow the river to finish between 65m and 75m deep at Beckton depending on the route.

The tunnel is bored outwards from a series of vertical shafts. These shafts are used for access during the work, but are also part of the permanent structures once the work has completed.

[[Shadwell Basin]] and King Edward Memorial Park were both considered as possible locations, but the current plans show the chosen site is just downriver of Shadwell basin on the foreshore by King Edward Memorial Park. This would involve building a permanent platform out into the river. An access road will still be needed and this is planned to cut through the east end of the park.
