I can recommend this mad dash of a Austrian weekend to anyone, there really is something for everyone. Whether it is your first trip on whitewater or you are a seasoned gnarr hunter I guarantee that Andy will find you something to keep you smiling!

When we talked about the plan, it sounded a bit crazy... 4 Days paddling in the Austrian Alps... Only 2 days leave from work... 2000 miles of driving... In Geoff's car...

The only actual crazy thing was doing it in Geoff's Gas Guzzler!

Geoff, Derek and I set off on Thursday after work, and after resisting the cheap beer on the ferry set about driving overnight from Dunkirk to Landeck in Austria. France, Belgium, Luxemborg and Germany flew by in a blur of motorways (you can't get points on a UK license in Europe right?) and we arrived next to the River Inn in Austria at 9am.

A 3 hour power nap later we were paddling down our first big volume water of the year!

Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday saw us all paddle 8 Austrian Classics ranging from Grd 3 to Grd 4+, and it really was the best fun I have ever had on the water. A 90 minute blast down the Oetz saw me laughing out loud with every paddle stroke and giggling like a school kid at the take out.

We could only have done it with the guidance and expertise of Andy Turton, who guided us round the holes and straight into the enormous crashing waves.

I can recommend this mad dash of an Austrian weekend to anyone, there really is something for everyone. Whether it is your first trip on whitewater or you are a seasoned gnarr hunter I guarantee that Andy will find you something to keep you smiling!
