Sea Kayaking

Explore new environments

Sea kayaking offers the opportunity to develop paddling skills, explore new environments and enjoy the challenge of working with wind, tides and changing conditions.

Tower Hamlets Canoe Club welcomes new paddlers and experienced sea kayakers alike. We offer a supportive community where you can learn, share experiences, and connect with nature.

Develop new skills

We support paddlers in developing their sea kayaking skills, whatever their starting point or goals. Whether you are building confidence on the water, developing new skills or planning your next step, we encourage everyone to progress at their own pace.

Our leaders and sea kayak representative can offer advice, help you identify opportunities to practice, put you in touch with suitable coaches or assessors, and support you on your journey, whether you are working towards the Explore, Sea Kayak or Coastal Sea Kayak Award, or becoming a Sea Kayak Leader.

Paddle the Thames

Weather and tide permitting, we paddle every Tuesday evening on the River Thames as part of our club night. Paddling on this iconic stretch offers a unique perspective of central London.

Depending on the conditions, our paddles head towards Greenwich or Westminster. Greenwich is for paddlers with sea kayaking experience on the Basin to build confidence and develop skills, while Westminster is for more experienced paddlers with Sea Kayak Award and above, offering a more challenging environment to refine their skills.

We also organise occasional weekend paddles to practice skills, gain experience, and enjoy paddling together.

We are fortunate to have access to this part of the tidal Thames and work with the Port of London Authority and Paddle UK to ensure our sessions are safe, well-supported, and enjoyable.

All traffic on the tidal Thames (down river of Teddington lock) is regulated by the Port of London Authority (PLA), and we follow the PLA Tideway Code.
