Help:Renaming pages

Any page can be renamed - or "moved".

When pages are renamed, there is always the issue of broken links from existing pages.

Before the page is renamed you can check what links to it.

• Go for the "What links here" page in the toolbox.

When you rename a page, you can also leave a redirect, which will pick up any old links.

• When the last of the links is updated, then you can delete the redirect page.

After a page has been moved you can see what it used to be called

• via Recent changes in the wiki menu
• or via the move log itself

There is also a report that will tell you if there are broken links.

• Go to the "Special pages" link in the toolbox
• The one you want is Wanted pages
• i.e. pages which are linked to, but which do not exist.
• The list includes a count of how many pages link there.
• The count is a link to the "What links here" page which shows you which pages.
